With our company expansion, we are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team!
CPA or CGA is not required.
The Senior Accountant will be based at our head office in Richmond, BC. This is a permanent full-time position, available immediately.
The Senior Accountant will report directly to the General Manager. We are looking for someone to complete and manage our accounts by completing the tasks below with one additional head count. The end goal is to ensure the duties outlined are completed on time correctly. The job is suitable for a senior accountant who is practical, hands on, takes initiative to chase down answers when needed, and is solution based.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Accountant will report to the General Manager and is responsible for maintaining the general ledger and providing management and support to the Accounting team. The Senior Accountant with Reporting and Management Focus will be responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, internal management reports and schedules. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for assisting the junior accountant with reconciling account balances, including intercompany balances, stock reconciliation from management and head office. A successful candidate combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to prepare and analyze financial reports. This position is suitable for senior accountants transitioning from public practice to industry. The successful candidate will need to complete the task with one additional head count provided to them which is the junior accountant role:
- Perform daily duties which include managing the data entry junior accounts staff in preparing daily journal entries (accruals and adjusting entries), balance sheet account reconciliations and balancing intercompany accounts.
Ensure the tasks are all complete in a timely manner

- Advising for the improvement in the system ongoing basis
- Asset management including
- Banking & Cash Management
- Account Receivable Management
- Inventory Management * Accounts Receivable process improvement and holding responsibility towards receiving it
- Cash Record process improvement and holding responsibility towards deposits
- Stock control audit – Inventory accuracy is to the upmost importance.
- Budgeting for departments including operations and marketing
- Participate in the month-end and year-end financial reporting process including reviewing journal entries and reconciliations
- Perform variance analyses against budget and prior year and summarize financial results
- Prepare year-end working papers for annual review
- Review accounting procedures and make recommendations to streamline and optimize processes
- Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility
- Investigate and resolve financial transaction issues
- Train and mentor junior account team member
- Reconcile bank accounts daily
- Complete government filing requirements such as GST and PST returns
- Manage accounts receivable aging, invoicing, cash receipts and other accounts receivable related tasks as needed
- Can doe payroll on a bi-weekly basis including managing employee expense reports, T4 and ROE processing, and compliance with payroll remittances including WorkSafe BC reporting. If not complete, must complete by ones self.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including intercompany, consolidations and elimination entries
- Addressing problems in the book and ways to improve the system
- Assist the General Manager with month-end and year-end review
QUALIFICATIONS
- Tertiary qualification or degree in Accounting
- CPA or CGA is not required.
- 3 – 5 years experience of Quickbooks
- 3 - 5 years of experience of full cycle accounting
- Proactive in finding solutions to problems as soon as it is found
- Strict work ethic and diligent
- Inventory control of retail product
- Retail experience is an asset
- Strong accounting and analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to multi-task and ability to exercise independent judgment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Can speak Chinese or Cantonese (One or the other)
- Must be a Canadian citizen or PR
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $50,000.00 to $55,000.00 /year
